And I Stayed Here

Like a string that's beating strongly
inside your chest
like a star going out and a melody
that's leaving you behind
My day, my light, my life, my soul and passion
and mistake and end and beginning of mine
my little one, my wound
And since the good ones always tell you the truth and they win
and they take you away, why are you
whistling to me
And since you want to go
out in the rain and dance with a white scarf
I am following you
And I stayed here, moving on
trying to make you leave and my mind
is not saying "I love you"
And I stayed here, searching and loitering
the hours you're missing and my music
is not finding a tune
It's the words, the moments
It's the friends you're going to see
It's the familiars and you'll have enough
little pleasures and sorrows
you'll go through
And it's the pictures, the moms and dads,
the certificates, the flowers
the kids in the surgeries
the leaves that smell in the yard
and a kiss
And like there are the cold nights
that never end
and the sheets that drown us
and the cigarettes that bring us down
There are the thoughts
that now laugh on their own
and that see us in the arena
but still, they aren't touching us
